My first photo shoot with kids! This was my favorite day on set of all of the projects I’ve worked on.
The idea was Superstars Reborn. Portraits of babies and toddlers inspired by WWE Superstars and Babies. There were so many directions this shoot could go, but keeping it sweet and simple seemed the best approach. We brainstormed current and legendary wrestlers that were most recognizable and what pieces of wardrobe or what prop could really drive it home. We narrowed it down to our 13 favorites.
And let the casting begin! I decided to start with the children of my colleagues. They would be the most excited and really enjoy the experience. There were so many great candidates! I could not have asked for a better pool of children to cast from.
I went into this with the mentality of whatever happens, happens and will be great. And it was. All of the children were so good and delivered. I think I laughed for most of the day. Your mind immediately projects so much onto a photo that it really brings that character in it to life. A crying or uncooperative child was not a bad thing in this story. It was welcomed!
Chad Griffith recently started a personal project photographing kids. I really enjoy working with Chad and knew he’d make it an enjoyable day. Sofia Karvela pulled some really amazing options that she further customized. My photo coordinator, Mary Poulos kept the day on track so that David Hilton and I could be on set. Charlie Hess captured the entire day on video.
